Among the routine bacteriological cultures of urine specimens, eighty six cultures which showed, more than 100,000 colonies per ml urine were analyzed both on clinical background and bacteriological basis and the following results were obtained.
1. Of a total of 86 isolates of urine culture, 73 isolates were gram-negative organisms, while 13 isolates were gram-positive cocci.
2. Acute and chronic pyelonephritis was the most frequent clinical diagnosis of cultured cases and cystitis, postoperative infection, septicemia, urinary tract stone, diabetes followed in-order of frequency.
3. Of the organisms isolated, the most common was E. coli (27 isolates) and Proteus, Enterococci and Enterobacter followed in order of frequency.
4. Staphylococcus aureus, formerly isolated as common pathogen, remarkably decreased in frequency, whereas Serratia one of KES group, appeared as significant organism, in addition to increase of antibiotic-resistant orgamsrns; e. g. Proteus; Enterococci. etc.
